| How is this mission achieved? |

This mission is the outcome of the following objectives:
- Further development and expansion of preventive medical care to decrease illnesses wherever possible.
- Further development of primary medical care, which covers 90% of the patients, in order to further decrease the admissions in public hospitals offering secondary and tertiary health care.
- Promotion of the community nursing care programme for the treatment of patients in their own familiar environment.
- Intensification of the health education/adoption of correct and hygienic lifestyle programmes.
- Establishment of a medical research and information component.
- Continuous improvement and upgrading of the premises and equipment of the public hospitals/medical centers.
- Initiation of medical audit programmes.
- Development of the Health Inspection Service programmes in the fields of food, environmental hygiene, detergent pollution, smoking, swimming pool/swimming areas inspection, and enlightenment of the public in general.
- Development of geriatric clinics in all districts.
- Continuation of the Medical and Public Health Services. and hospital computerisation so as to create an information system which will ensure the efficient monitoring, assessment, planning and development of the health system in Cyprus.
- Monitoring of the establishment and operation of private sector medical centres.
- Continuous staff training.
- Participation in international medical and health activities. |
