Monitoring & Official Control

Appropriate multi-annual, National control plans, are prepared in cooperation by the SGL and the Health Services (HS) of Medical and Public Health Services (MPHS) of Ministry of Health, the Veterinary Services (VS) of the Ministry of Agriculture Natural Resources and Environment (MANRE), the Department of Agriculture (DA) of MANRE and the Department of Labour Inspection of the ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, for both locally produced and imported foodstuffs. These plans have a proactive element aiming at prevention as far as possible. They are based on the requirements of the Regulation (EC) No. 882/2004 and other specific EU legislation and on the categorisation of risk, i.e. vulnerability of the foodstuff to spoilage, previous poor results, known safety problems, increased consumption by the consumer, especially high risk or vulnerable population groups (e.g. children), information from RASFF system etc.
