STATEMENT OF THE PHARMACY BOARD CONCERNING THE PHARMACIST REGISTRATION EXAMINATION IN CYPRUS
Pharmacy and Poisons Law (Procedure and Content of Examinations for the Registration of a Pharmacist) Regulations of 2015 (470/2015)

The Pharmacy Board may request from any person wishing to register as a pharmacist in Cyprus, and who does not possess a diploma, certificate or other university or equivalent title referred to in Annex I or in Article 9A of the Pharmacy and Poisons Law (Cap. 254), to pass the pharmacist registration examination according to the Regulations on Pharmacy and Poisons (Procedure and Content of Examinations for the Registration of a Pharmacist) Regulations of 2015.

The exams are held 4 times a year, i.e. in the first week of March, June, September and December, in a place and time that is announced personally to each candidate.

The exams are of 2 hours duration, are conducted in writing and cover the following topics:

The following laws, including their amendments and the relevant secondary legislation:

(a) The Pharmacy and Poisons Law (Cap. 254);

(b) The Medicinal Products for Human Use (Quality, Supply and Price Control) Law;

(c) The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law,

(d) The Pharmacists΄ (Associations, Discipline and Pensions Fund) Law

Pharmacy Practice

This aims to ensure that the pharmacist can adequately:

· respond to symptoms presented in the pharmacy and identify serious symptoms,

· recommend the appropriate over the counter treatment

· identify adverse reactions and interactions

· know the indications, contra-indications, side-effects and interactions of medicinal products

· provide advice on the correct use of medicinal products, etc.

Each applicant can only attend the examination if he/she satisfies the Registrar of the Pharmacy Board that he/she:

(a) possesses a diploma, certificate or other university or equivalent title referred to in Annex II of the Law,

(b) satisfies the requirements of paragraphs (a),(b), (c) of subsection (1) of Article 9 of the Law,

(c) Pays the registration fee of €100

Fees are not refundable to applicants in the event of withdrawal and non re-submission of the application.

Application Procedure

The original application must be submitted to the Pharmaceutical Services by the 15th day of the previous month at the latest, i.e. before the 15th of February, May, August or November.

The Registrar of the Pharmacy Board shall notify each applicant in writing of the time and place of the examination.
