In September 15, 2018, Dr. Stelios Yiannopoulos has been appointed as Director of the State General Laboratory of Cyprus (SGL).

CV in Brief

Dr. Stelios Yiannopoulos graduated from Paphos Lyceum of Archbishop Makarios III in 1975, and after his military service, he completed his university studies in Chemistry, at the Department of Chemistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki where he graduated in 1982. He then obtained a Ph.D. degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1988 and Master in Management (MBA) in Public Administration of the Mediterranean Institute of Management (MIM), in 2011.

He participated in research projects of the Center for Theoretical and Physical Chemistry of the National Hellenic Research Foundation, between 1984 and 1988.

He has scientific research work beyond 60 scientific papers on Chemistry and there are 280 references to his research work from other researchers.

He worked as Chemist in Cyprus in "MTV Cosmetics" (1982-1983) and "DP London" (1983-1984).

He was the first teacher of the Food Chemistry lesson at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Cyprus from 1998 to 2006.

Ηe is the President of the Chemists Registration Council and he is a member of: the EFSA Advisory Forum, the EFSA's Expert Group on Food Consumption Data, the Management Board of Cyprus Foundation for the Promotion of Research, the Pancyprian Union of Chemists, the Cyprus National Addictions Authority, the Food Safety Council, the National Committee of “Environment and Children's Health” and, from November 2015, he is the Coordinator of the European Program "EU MENU Cyprus".

He was first appointed to the State General Laboratory of Cyprus (SGL) in 1988 and he has experience at all levels of the SGL (Technician, Chemist 2nd and 1st Grade, Senior Chemist).

Since September 15, 2018, he holds the post of Director of the State General Laboratory of Cyprus.
