The State General Laboratory (SGL) of Cyprus co-organised with the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) a training workshop on dietary risk assessment. The purpose of the workshop was dual: a) to acquire/increase knowledge of the scientific principles and methodology of exposure assessment and b) to provide training on the deterministic exposure assessment model developed by SGL, the IMPRORISK model, with regards to its applicability in chemical risk assessment.

The workshop focused on:

    • EFSA’s Food Consumption & Chemical Occurrence Databases and the harmonization approach;
    • Existing tools for exposure assessment;
    • Deterministic versus probabilistic in dietary exposure assessment of chemicals;
    • Presentation of the IMPRORISK model;
    • Hands-on training of the IMPRORISK model and respective instructions manual.

The workshop was held in Larnaca, Cyprus, on 17-18 May 2016, and had duration of 1,5 days. Attendance was on an invite–only basis, with one participant per Member State. EFSA also supported the participation of one expert from each pre-accession country through EFSA’s Pre-accession programme.
